SSTC preps Tiger Shark SSD with PCIE Gen5 support
A storage company from Vietnam is set to launch its first PCIe Gen5 storage very soon.
The first samples of the new Tiger Shark SSD have just been sent out for reviews. This is next-gen storage based on PCIe Gen5 interface and NVMe 2.0 protocol. Thus far, there is only mention of a 2TB version, which seems to be a common capacity for all Gen5 storage that we have seen on the market already.
The SSD is based on Phison E26 controller and as an endurance measured at 1400 TBW. The storage ships with an optional heatsink that has RGB lighting. It looks like users can either remove the ‘Tiger Shark Series’ label to put the storage under a motherboard heatsink, or alternatively add this custom RGB ‘SSTC Boost’ heatsink themselves if their motherboard doesn’t have any. At this point, it is not clear if the heatsink is sold separately or this is part of the product.

More importantly, the storage has already been tested with Intel Z690 and AMD B650E platforms. Although, both chipsets support PCIe Gen5 storage, Intel has a limited number of lanes for this standard. What this means is that by using Gen5 storage the number of available lanes for GPU will automatically be reduced. However, in this case, no discrete GPUs were used, so it didn’t really matter.
The storage offers nearly the same performance on both platforms, reading 10074/10227 MB/s read and write sequential speeds on Intel and 10092/10222 MB/s on AMD:

According to preliminary information, the SSTC Gen5 storage will on sale very soon, but no launch date has been shared yet. The storage should go on sale for around 8,999,999 VND, which is something like $379. Other Gen5 SSDs can be found for nearly the same price. Yesterday we reported on Inland SSD now available for $350, and a bit earlier on AORUS SSD listed at $340.
