Mechrevo claims GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU is only 11% to 15% faster than RTX 3070

Chinese laptop maker claims on RTX 4070/4060 performance

Mechrevo shares performance figures for its upcoming RTX 40 powered laptops.

According to the data shared by Mechrevo, GeForce RTX 4060 and RTX 4070 performance will be a double digit increase. The RTX 4060 is expected to be at least 25% faster while RTX 4070 should end up with at least 11% faster.

The company is not providing any further details, as to what games were tested or with what settings. This is a simple comparison of the newest generation of Mechrevo laptop to last-gen RTX 3060 and RTX 4070 based. Presumably with similar TGP settings.

The charts themselves are quite literally the worst charts one would expect to see. Not only the x-axis is not starting from 0, the 125% 3DMark TimeSpy performance bar is actually wider than 130% with Fire Strike. That said, one should ignore the visual representation of this data, but rather focus on the numbers themselves.

When it comes to specs, RTX 4070 features an AD106 GPU with 4608 CUDA cores, 8GB GDDR6 memory across a 128-bit bus. That’s actually fewer cores than RTX 3070 which had 5120 cores, but the same 8GB memory capacity.

Despite faster memory clock of 16 Gbps compared to last-gen (14 Gbps), the memory bus has been halved (RTX 3070 had 256-bit bus). This means that the effective bandwidth has been significant reduced from 448 GB/s to just 256 GB/s. This is, however a comparison between AD106 GPU and GA104, so in theory a different class of GPU, but this is after all what NVIDIA chose for these SKUs.

The RTX 4060 feature 3072 CUDA cores (full implementation of AD107 GPU) and identical memory specs to RTX 4070 Laptop GPU. Same as 4070, this model will have fewer cores than last gen (3840), and this is again a downgrade of GPU class to lower model. Despite this change, RTX 4060 looks like an actual generation upgrade over RTX 3060, not to mention it has 2GB more memory.

The RTX 4070, 4060 and 4050 laptops are to launch next week, on February 22nd. Gamers can now preorder these systems, which should cost at least $1099, while RTX 4070 can be found for around $1,499.
